Hey guys, so I did a thing! I started my blog! I wish I could say that I swallowed all of my fears and went for it, but nope, there’s still some, ok, a lot of fears there. Whew, deep breath.
Welcome to Everyday Carter, my name is Milagros, but most people call me Mia. I have a lot to say and am super excited to share with you all. Everyday Carter is my lifestyle blog that showcases the many facets that make our family what it is. My goal for this blog is to be real with you guys. My oldest daughter Jada says this blog is about the “real behind the scenes of a real family, doing real things.” I love her message, and she’s right in every sense of the word.
My inspiration to start this blog is two-fold; first, I was inspired because my family and I have completed so many projects on our 1960 rancher house that we have lived in since 2016. We bought our house as a flipped house, but we quickly found out that it was falling apart from the inside-out. Yes, our house was so pretty from afar, but we realized it was a huge mess up close! For those who know me personally know that I am a true Taurus (yup I believe in the zodiacs), so I love quality things, but I don’t want to pay the money for it. Because of that, a lot of our projects are DIY. Actually, we are DI-trying because we aren’t those people who have been life-long carpenters and designers, we just want what we want, but also want to save money while doing it. I spend a lot of time conducting LOTS of research on our projects to see how we can best save money. Sometimes we are successful, sometimes we decide it’s worth the money to just hire out. Even though we’ve come a long way, we still have a long list of home improvement projects to share with you guys. This is definitely a marathon for us. So, I am calling my main blog series, Fixing our Flip. My goal is to share everything that we know and learn as we complete each project, and hopefully it will help you as you go through your own home improvement adventures. Like I said, my husband or I are not seasoned carpenters, contractors, woodworkers, or anything like that, we are real people with full-time jobs. We just hope people can learn from our mistakes and successes.
Ok, so the second reason for my inspiration stems from the COVID-19 pandemic, staying home, and a culmination of various events that occurred in our country between March 2020 up until present times. I am a silver lining type of person, but I do acknowledge the bad or negative events that happen because how else would we grow as individuals or as a society? The first step to any solution is to acknowledge there is indeed a problem. On the flip side, I tend to naturally search for the good in every situation I come across (I get it from my momma lol). As a result of these different events, I started searching for bloggers who I could relate to. Now listen, I consider the people I follow on social media to be pretty diverse and inclusive, but the one thing I never really saw were bloggers who happen to be women of color. When I discovered a couple of them, it turned into a few, and then many, and then even more! Oh, the inspiration! This entire time, I have been wanting to start a lifestyle blog, but didn’t think I could because all of the blogs I ever saw involved these large, pristine houses, or experienced carpenters, or something similar, and lastly, none of the women I followed looked anything like me! The silver lining is that the sum of these events led me to find people who I could identify with! These women are strong, original, demand respect and courteousness, and are unapologetic for the way they live their lives. Even though they are all these things (which is amazing), they WANT to help others be successful. So, as I discovered these women, I felt myself raising my hand, saying to myself “that’s me, that’s me!” I’m those women! Ha, I love it! No time for haters around here!
So, I’ve said all that to say that I welcome you into this part of my life. This blog is meant to provide you with insight, be uplifting, and to be a positive place to hang out. My family and friends know how I am. I was taught as a child to say the greeting of the day, I was taught in the military to say the greeting of the day, and so I now I teach my children to say, yup, that’s right…the greeting of the day. We are human, and we all deserve to be acknowledged.
Ok guys, I’ve talked long enough. I know we did not cover everything, but just want to say a big hello to you guys, and welcome you all to my little corner of the internet. If you have read all the way to the bottom, I would love for you to take a moment to say Hi (or the greeting of the day) in the comments section. Did anything strike a chord with you in a positive way?
Besos, Mia.
